An ode...

... to the most wonderful thing I've ever put in my mouth.
I have never, ever, EVER in my life tasted anything as magical as the cantaloupes they are currently selling in our local Japanese supermarkets. They are heavenly- the juiciest, most succulent fruits in the entire world. Seriously, this is cantaloupe on a whole other plane of existence.

If for nothing else, come to Japan for the fruit. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I want a melon. But I can't buy a melon because I spent all my money on expensive special kitten food and treats and toys and wet food and litter and a litter box. AH!

I was wondering about produce in Japan in connection with you the other day. Do they grow it there or import it? Do they have any weird, foreign produce?

They grow most of the produce they sell here in Japan. I've seen imported bananas, and probably a few other items. Everything grown in Japan has been AMAZING though. Super delicious. They don't have much weird or foreign produce- there's a popular plum around here called an Ume which I've never had before, and a type of squash that I can't figure out for the life of me how to cook. Most of it is fairly recognizable though.
